Diced Ham & Swiss Sliders with Sweet Garlic Butter
Ham and cheese sliders for the win!
There’s a little pizza place in my hometown that makes a ham and cheese sandwich so good it feels like it came straight from Heaven. What’s their secret, you may ask? A warm pile of salty, juicy shredded ham topped with melty cheese and tucked into a garlic-buttered hoagie roll that’s just the right amount of perfection.
I decided to recreate that flavor for last weekend’s Alabama football game—only this time as sliders. They’re bite-sized, easy to grab between plays, and perfect for a game-day spread where you want to sample all the snacks without getting too full too fast.
Here’s my favorite part: the sweet garlic butter mixture on these sliders might just be the most delicious and versatile sandwich topping I’ve ever tasted. The way it soaks into the bread and toasts in the oven makes these little sandwiches absolutely irresistible.
Ingredients
12-count package yeast slider buns or Hawaiian rolls
1 lb diced ham
8–10 slices Swiss cheese (or enough to cover)
1 stick salted butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
Plain ingredients make for the best recipes!
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease or line a 9x13 baking dish with aluminum foil.
Prepare the buns: Slice the entire slab of slider buns in half horizontally (keeping tops and bottoms intact). Place the bottom half in the baking dish.
In a skillet over medium heat, add a small pat of butter and a teaspoonful of Worcestershire and warm the shredded ham just until hot. Adding the Worcestershire to the pan adds an extra depth of flavor.
In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic powder, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire, onion powder, and pepper.
Assemble the sliders: Using a pastry brush, brush melted butter mixture sparingly over slider bottoms in pan (the remaining melted butter will be poured over the tops later). Pop buttered bread into the oven for 5 minutes to toast before adding the ham.
Spread the warmed ham evenly over the bottom half of the buns. Layer Swiss cheese slices over the ham so they cover edge-to-edge.
Place the top half of the buns on. Spoon and brush the butter mixture generously over the tops, letting it drip down the sides.
Cover with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 5–7 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the tops are slightly crisp and golden.
Slice into individual sliders and serve warm. They should be gooey, salty, buttery, and just a little sweet—and perfect!
Slice these babies in half lengthwise, but don’t break them up into individual pieces.
This is the most amazing and versatile butter concoction to have ever graced a mixing bowl.
Next, top with cheese and put the lids on.
Brush tops, cover with foil, bake, and wait for the magic to happen.
BEST.SLIDERS.EVER!
Now THAT’S a gameday spread worth a touchdown dance!
